A Reflection of Him

2 Corinthians 3:17-18, “Now, the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, He gives freedom. And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more." (NLT)

As we grow as Christians, we are like mirrors becoming clearer and clearer. Perhaps at first, we may reflect God's glory like a plastic toy mirror, or a mirror fogged over by steam with just a little area wiped off...in other words, not clearly, but somewhat muddled. The closer we become with God, the more clearly we are reflecting His beauty and radiance in the world…and the One who creates this transformation in us is the Holy Spirit.  It’s not in our ability to transform ourselves.

This process is exactly that: a process.  We are not Christ-like immediately when we accept Christ. He works within our lives, our hearts and our minds. His goal is that we… “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2) God wants us to "...become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” (Romans 8:29 NLT)

You were born to fulfill God's purpose for your life, which is to shine and reflect His glory into the lives of many others: To your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and even to seemingly "random" people God places in your path!  You may wonder how you can possibly succeed in such a holy pursuit. The answer God provides is this: You can only shine because of the One who loves you and created you with unique internal and external beauty and ”good works...prepared in advance,” (Eph 2:10) in Mind. And His intention is for us to have companionship on this journey of living authentically with Jesus and others. We need each other to speak truth, to hold our hands when we are scared or nervous, to build us up and encourage us in God’s word, and to listen to all our fears and doubts and speak Love powerfully over all else. We have been created for this purpose, to build one another up in Christ… ”My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love…” (Col 2:2)

Introduction to Crowned with Beauty

The heart of Crowned with Beauty is to restore women to the original beauty with which God created us; to help women understand that while our relationship with Christ begins at the cross, and we come there dirty and tattered and scarred, that is not where Christ intends for us to remain. In Isaiah 61, He promises us “a crown of beauty instead of ashes…a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair,” and that He will clothe us with His “robe of righteousness.” The question God intends this ministry to ask is, “Will you let Jesus take you from His cross to your crown?”

The spiritual journey from our salvation at His cross to living fully the abundant life He promises and wearing the crown of beauty He gives us is a long, difficult journey to take. Most of us will not embark on this journey on our own accord. We badly need healing, but there are too many confrontations of past hurts, wounds, lies and disappointments that we must face. Most of us believe it is easier to “make peace” with our pasts by hiding or covering up or lowering our expectations. This false peace keeps us from breaking the very shackles which Jesus came to release, and it keeps us from living our God-given destinies for which we have been created, the “good works prepared in advance” for us. Each of us has a realm of influence in which we can “shine like stars in the universe,” among a “crooked and depraved generation,” Philippians 2:15. However, when we allow the world, the flesh, and Satan to define us, we do not shine but are kept in the dark. It is only when Christ defines us that we reflect His light.

Crowned with Beauty’s mission is: Transforming Women’s Lives into Reflections of Christ’s Radiant Beauty. Through retreats, books and studies, and community groups, we will help women begin to see themselves through the eyes of Christ, and equip them to teach others the same. Crowned with Beauty’s proclamation is: You are valuable in the eyes of Christ just as you are. We will share this joyous truth all over the world through Christ’s strength and His glory. Amen.

We would love to encourage you personally on your path with Christ through some of our experiences with the Lord. As He transforms and continuously conforms us into the image of His Son, we feel the growing pains; we soar with joy at His faithfulness; and we are becoming changed into women who can trust Him fully with anything life brings. There is freedom in finding your hope in Christ, and we long to share hope and encouragement with one another! We’d love to hear what you have to say!
